Hearstopper: La serie que se sale del molde

La serie está basada en un webcomic que firmó Alice Osman en 2018 y cuya historia se desarrolla a lo largo de cuatro volúmenes. Alice es toda una revelación dentro del mundo del mundo literario, firmó su primer contrato con tan solo 17 años y no ha dejado de publicar en formato digital y analógico.

¿Por qué amamos Heartstopper?

La primera razón que hace que esta serie destaque por encima de las otras es sencilla: Se sale del molde de las series para adolescentes.

La mayoría de estas producciones cuentan con un cast mucho mayor (entre 25 y 30 años). Por varios motivos, uno de ellos son las leyes que existen alrededor del trabajo para menores de edad, pero también influye en nuestras mentes para que no nos parezca tan negativo lo que estamos viendo en pantalla.

En Heartstopper, sus protagonistas tienen 18 años y esto aporta una naturalidad encantadora que nos permite conectar más fácilmente con esta historia tan bonita de amor, de amistad y autodescubrimiento.

UNA ADOLESCENCIA MÁS REAL Y GENUINA

La vida de estos personajes se asemeja más a la adolescencia de la vida real.

Aunque no parezca, las producciones más famosas de adolescentes (Élite, Riverdale, Euphoria) caen en la «aniquilación simbólica» que es cuando no se representa de manera real y responsable a una comunidad en pantalla, porque no se considera importante (LGBTIQ+, adolescentes, mujeres, personas discapacitadas, etc)

Un ejemplo de esto, es que en Estados Unidos la mayoría de adolescentes no tiene una vida sexual activa, resulta casi imposible de creer por la cantidad de escenas explícitas que vemos en casi todas estas series.

Heartstopper es una bocanada de aire fresco y resulta de suma importancia para todos, en especial para los que ahora están en esta etapa.

EL AMOR PUEDE SER BONITO Y ALGO INGENUO

La adolescencia no es una etapa sencilla, sobre todo cuando nuestras expectativas sobre el amor son tan irreales. Junto a Nick y Charlie, descubrimos una historia que pese a las inseguridades, miedos y problemas, se apoyan de manera amorosa y sana.

La responsabilidad afectiva es muy importante y Nick siempre se esfuerza por expresar su amor, por ser ese lugar seguro para Charlie. Mientras él demuestra su amor a través de la paciencia y apoyo que le da a Nick en su camino de descubrimiento, sin presionarlo.

EL APOYO SIEMPRE ES IMPORTANTE

Los amigos son la familia que se escoge y la amistad es un pilar fundamental de Heartstopper, ya que siempre están ahí para aceptarse y apoyarse. A través de dinámicas sanas y acordes a su edad.

Los padres ausentes parecen un requisito para las series de adolescentes, pero la madre de Nick nos roba el corazón con frases cómo «Perdón si te he dado la impresión de que no podías contármelo», porque de manera natural le muestra comprensión.

Se esfuerza por saber cómo se siente y por aconsejarlo cuando se da cuenta que su hijo está un poco confundido o triste. Mostrando la importancia de un acompañamiento respetuoso y cariñoso de los padres.

LA PRESIÓN POR CUMPLIR CON LAS EXPECTATIVAS

Vivimos en una sociedad que da por hecho que «lo normal» es ser heterosexual y de acuerdo a esto se asumen ciertos comportamientos, decisiones y se espera que todos cumplamos con esto. Pero ¿qué pasa cuando no es así?

El camino de Nick nos muestra la importancia de no meter a los niños en etiquetas y no esperar que vivan su vida acorde a estas. Él empieza su proceso de descubrir su orientación sexual y lo hace de manera muy creíble, buscando en Google, como cualquier adolescente promedio haría.

DIVERSIDAD REAL, PARA VARIAR

Muchas series han superado el paradigma heteronormativo, sin embargo, muy pocas entienden la sexualidad como un espectro amplio y muestran de manera responsable las formas de entender la identidad y los procesos que viven los personajes a la hora de asumirlas y expresarlas.

Por eso que una serie para adolescentes lo haga mientras te roba el corazón, es simplemente maravilloso y más si sirve de cierta «guía» para algunos adolescentes.

Además mantiene una luz e inocencia que contrasta directamente con los principios de la ficción queer, que se caracterizaban por ser historias transgerosas desarrolladas en ambientes hostiles. Heartstopper asocia este proceso de la adolescencia como una etapa llena de dudas y temores, pero también llena de ternura, paciencia, amor y las ganas de apoyarse mutuamente.

Y para concluir, lo que parece mi carta de amor a esta serie, la estética que se maneja es genial, manteniendo su esencia de webcomic con montajes de viñetas y animaciones bonitas que adornan pero no esconden problemáticas graves como la homofobia.

Da como resultado, una historia optimista, luminosa, versátil y fresca en medio de un género saturado y subvalorado.
